NPOs are entities, which carry out works such as social, cultural, educational and charitable. They are primarily funded by donations, grants, and fundraisers. Any profit made by an NPO is distributed back into the organization to further its mission, rather than being given to private individuals.

NGO Darpan Portal is a platform, wherein Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs), can register themselves to obtain a unique identity number. This number is mandatory for all NPOs who are seeking grants from the Ministries / Departments of Government of India. As per the Prevention of Money Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Amendment Rules, 2023, all financial institutes have been mandated to ensure NGO Darpan Unique ID for opening and operating accounts in any Bank. Similarly, Darpan Unique ID is also required for registration/renewal of FCRA, seeking exemptions under 80-G of Income Tax.

To sign up,

  • Ensure your organization is registered as a Trust, Society, or Private Limited Nonprofit Company.
  • Click the "Sign Up" button under the "New Users" heading.
  • Creating User ID and Password
  • Complete the online form.
  • After verification of documents by the NGO Darpan Help Desk, a confirmation mail will be sent on registered email ID.
  • Lastly, the NPO needs to login into their NGO Darpan account to generate the unique ID.

If there was a spelling mistake in your email ID, you would not receive the activation email. In this case, email us at ngo[at]india[dot]gov[dot]in, quoting your Unique ID (formatted like AB/2010/0001234). Upon receiving your Unique ID, we can activate your account. Once activated, you can login and update your email ID.

  • "Your account is not yet activated.": You need to activate your account first.
  • "Invalid Character Found. Invalid UserID/Password.": Check your User ID or Password for errors.

If you continue to have issues, try resetting your password using the 'Forgot Your Password' link. Also, verify that the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys are not affecting your login information.

  • To update the registered email ID and mobile no., NPO needs to submit written request to “ngo[at]india[dot]gov[dot]in” on the letter head of their organization, mentioning previous details alongwith their organization’s PAN card.

During the signup process, you must provide details for at least three office bearers two for  with the following mandatory designations:

  • Chairman/President
  • Secretary (in charge of operations)
  • Treasurer/Financial Trustee (or a similar title)

There is also provision for providing details of more office bearers, which is optional. In case of NPOs registered under Companies Act information about two office bearers is mandatory.
